Groep 12a: Rhododendron thomsonii.

Er zijn slechts weinig cultivars in deze groep van grote wintergroene struiken ingedeeld. De bladeren zijn eirond, kaal aan de achterzijde. De bloemen zijn klokvormig, soms trechtervormig, vrijwel altijd rood. Alle hybriden uit deze groep zijn veeleisend en voldoen alleen in zeer gunstige omstandigheden. Bloeitijd april-mei. Tot en met 2003 zijn er in deze groep geen cultivars aanwezig.

There are only a few hybrids in this group of evergreen, large shrubs. The leaves are more or less orbicular to oblong, glabrous. Flowers in somewhat open trusses, bell- or funnelshaped, almost always red. Most of these hybrids require a sheltered place in woodland conditions. Flowering in April-May. Until 2003 there are no varieties in this group available.

Es sind nur wenigen Sorten in dieser Gruppe von grossen immergrünen Sträuchern eingeteilt. Die Blätter sind eirund, kahl an der Rückseite. Die Blüten sind glocken- oder trichterförmig, fast immer rot. Alle Sorten in dieser Gruppe sind anspruchsvoll und nur in sehr günstigen Umständen brauchbar. Blütezeit April-Mai. Bis und mit 2003 sind keine Sorten aus dieser Gruppe zur Verfügung.

On ne trouve que peu de variétés dans cette groupe de grands arbustes et à feuilles persistantes, dessous glabre. Les fleurs sont en forme de clochettes ou entonnoir, toujours rouge. Toutes les variétés en cette groupe sont bien exigéantes en culture et ont besoin d'un place bien abritée et protegée contre le vent. Epoque de floraison avril-mai. Jusqu'a 2003 il n'y a pas des variétés disponible dans cette groupe.
